Itinerary

1. 1

   M'hamid → Laraada

   Across the Draa riverbed, past the end of the oasis, to the nomad shrine of Sidi Najji.

2. 2

   Laraada → Ezzmaila

   Across a clay plain with traces of ancient cultures to dunes at the foot of the mountains.

3. 3

   Ezzmaila → Erg Ezzahar

   A day entirely in the sand, camp at the foot of one of Morocco’s highest dunes.

4. 4

   Erg Ezzahar → Ereig Essmar

   Back towards the Draa, greener land and a rest at the well under palm trees.

5. 5

   Ereig Essmar → Erg Chegaga

   Through erg and reg, with fossils underfoot, to Morocco’s largest dune field.

6. 6

   Erg Chegaga → Erg Bougaren

   Along the edge of the hamada to the Oued Latache riverbed, then on to Erg Bougaren.

7. 7

   Erg Bougaren → Louteid

   Further east between tamarisks, following the tracks of desert animals.

8. 8

   Louteid → Bertam

   Last full day in the desert, a stop at the “ostrich well”, and with luck an encounter with nomads.

9. 9

   Bertam → M'hamid

   Through small dunes back to camp: lunch, a shower and, on request, the hammam.
